The Purpose of The Lighthouse

The purpose of the
LIGHTHOUSE

The ship was coming close to land. The winds were raging. The tempest was brutal. The waves were high. The winds blew harshly. Each moment counted. The ship’s captain at the helm scanned the waters searching for something. Those on deck had thrown all unnecessary weight overboard. They were clearly trying their best to stay afloat. The captain appeared unmoved. He continued to scan the waters. Then, there in the distance he did see…
He looked more intently, in the direction of the slight gleam.  Was it? He had to be sure. The lives of all on board depended on what he saw and the direction he would take.
Then , he saw, with great effort,  through the scope. As he looked, with difficulty, for the rains were heavy and the fog intense. He saw the gleam. That flicker became clear.
Yes, he saw the evidence of the shore. There amidst the waves and stormy skies the captain saw the light. Small at first….
Then as he began to steer the ship in the direction of the light, he saw it more clearly. The Lighthouse. It assured them of hope. It made him determined to reach the shore. Strength was somehow mustered up. Though exhaustion had seemed to be taking over, just moments before.
But the light gave such a drive and a conviction that Life would be certain, as long as, they went toward the Light.

Jesus is that shore. The Lighthouse stands upon.  He is the sure foundation of our faith. We cannot go toward other shores where darkness will catch us unawares. The shores of strange gods will lead us to destruction.  There must be a conviction in our daily walk to remain in the light.

Jesus is also that Lighthouse, We too are lights within that Lighthouse, leading others to the shore of salvation. The cross stands as a testament of God’s unwavering commitment to humanity. But the Empty Tomb is the Brightness that leads us all to the sure Shore of Grace.

Jesus is that shore of hope. Eternity and sorrow in him, are no more. His mercy has reached us and thus, we are commissioned to reach the lost.

There are many too, who are on a ship headed toward the depths of perdition. The waves of sin are the gale that pushes against their lives. Yet, as we stand and shine the light.
Light that is not our own. It is the Light of Jesus, He is the Light of the World.
We hold in us the reflection of the light of heaven.
We have the opportunity to shine it so others can see the way.

How am I shining Lord?
Do I point to the shore?
Is my light dim or bright?

Proverbs 14:25 -26

Is it clear for those who are wavering in the depths of darkness to find hope and see?

Oh Lord, ignite the flame. Add to my dimness the new oil of your Spirit. Give us new wine. That it will be brighter still. As fuel ignites the engines, so let my light be ignited again with your Holy Spirit.

Let my light shine on the place of refuge, that souls would find peace and eternal safety.
Jesus shine. If, I am to be the reflection of your love then add to my reserves, the fuel of your presence, the strength of your power that causes the Light to preserve lives for you.
Let your Word be clearly evidenced in me that those in the sea of helplessness would find a sure direction to the Light of your Love.
This is my prayer, this day.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
