Taking ownership of the Word…
Appropriating the benefits of God’s Word to our own lives is what you and I can do.
There is great benefit when I take for myself the lessons and the instructions given to me in the scriptures.
The Word can bring blessings to my life as the words in those pages of God’s word are like no other words that can be found in any other book.
I love literature. Reading Shakespeare and reading of the great minds of all times. Socrates and Aristotle, are fascinating to study. Their works offer much insight and give us much to ponder on.
But the Holy Scriptures offer things that no other text can provide.
Scripture speaks to the depth of the soul and enables the simple minded to glean knowledge and understanding.
Scriptures can be utilized to bring clarity and order to what might have been chaotic and unresolved.
Scripture gives us a clear path to understanding the heart of God. It is the love letter from our Creator.
There are allegories and metaphors, practical lessons and challenges for the mind and soul. When we allow the pages and the letters of these seemingly, simple words, to enter in to our ears and minds and hearts, we are transformed.
The Bible says,
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
Scripture tells me, that God knows me well. It shows me clearly, that I am not hidden from him.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
Psalm 139:2-4
God’s Word teaches me to believe that, regardless of the darkness around about me, God’s light enables me to walk freely knowing I have a clear path to walk in. I can be secure in the truths I find, in God’s Word.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1
Scripture is a mirror that shows me my own flaws and how to correct them. It shows me that the motivations of my heart are clear to the Lord. There is no need to musger up some kind of falsehood. I need not hide from him. He knows me well. He knows the motivations of my very heart.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Jeremiah 17:9-10
When I consider my own shortcomings, it is in God’s Word that I find the way back to the Father. It demonstrates the very direction I must follow to be restored.
How can a young man (young woman) cleanse his/her0 way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
Psalms 119:9-11
The Lord’s word teaches me how to come back and stay on track when I fail or stray.
It shows me the how to’s and the don’ts of life.
The Apostle Paul wrote,
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.
II Thessalonians 3:16
In every way…
In every direction of life, in every decision to be made; in every trial and life circumstance, I can trust the Lord and His Word to be my North.
The Compass of my life can be this very Word of God.
God’s Word is such a comfort and an assurance for my life.
It reminds me, that, I am chosen by God. He decided that He wanted me. Yes, me. This one here, with all my flaws and inconsistencies. Yes, He has loved me with an everlasting love.
When the Lord could have doscarded me, when my wayward heart offended his very divinity, He was patient and kind and merciful toward me.
God’s Word tells me so.
You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its farthest regions, And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Isaiah 41:9-10
Oh, God’s Word inspires me to hope. It enables me to believe that even in my darkest and bleakest moments, I am not abandoned.
You see, I did not go searching for God. No, not at all. It was He who chose to come after me. He chose to seek me out and find me. When I was lost in my sins.
He came for me.
He calls to the deep. He calls to the lowly and forgotten. He draws all who will come.
He made, out of a people that were not, the chosen, his people.
He engratfted me in. He took me and now their blessing is mine to claim.
I was a wild olive branch. I was not producing anything of value. Drying out and ready to die was my story. But the Lord engrafted me in to the vine.
I was destined to be burned and had no hope. Yet, Jesus came and took me. He placed me in to the vine. He is that vine. That trunk, He is the life Giver and the Life Sustainer.
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
John 15:1-5
And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree,
Romans 11:17
Oh, if I could only convey the need, we all have, to receive from the sap of the Vine.
Each tree has the sap that sustains it. The roots draw up the water and the nutrients. So we, draw from Christ Jesus, the life giving sap that keeps us connected even though we were not of the original vine. Now we have been engrafted.
We have been adopted in to the family of God.
God destined us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ because of his love. This was according to his goodwill and plan
Ephesians 1:5
All this I have found in the pages of this Marvelous, life altering book. It is thos unique and amazing Book that has touched lives throughout history.
The great philosophers could only offer ideas. Their thoughts were limited by space and time.
God’s Word is timeless. It endures when all else fails.
When people walk away, God’s Word tells me clearly,
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8
When my sin is before me and I acknowledge my failures, scripture tells me, God is ready to wash away my stains.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I John 1:9
THE Lord’s Word reminds me that the Lord is slow to anger and always gracious in showing mercy.
He desires that none should perish.
Jesus came as the Only begotten Son of God. He was the sacrificial Lamb promised to Abraham. He is the Lamb of God that took my place and yours. He paid the price to redeem you and me.
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 43:1-2
Salvation is for you and me. It is for the whosoever. Whomever would believe and accept the truth of God’s Word can take the benefits of the Word.
I can take full ownership of every promise in this book when, I surrender to Christ.
As I come to him and tell him how sorry I am for my sin: He takes the blood He shed on Calvary’s Cross and the Power of His Resurrection and grants me the gift of freedom.
The Word of God is clear. It states,
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
Just think about that for a minute. Let is sink in.
Its like going to a Bank and being handed the key to a safety deposit box. They then tell you that everything in the box and everything owned by the owner of that box is now yours to use. You have total access.
God’s Word is that key. It is that All Access Pass to God’s unmerited favor. God’s Word affords us free access to the throne room of grace. We can clearly see that Son is sitting now at the right hand of the Father Interceding for you and me.
Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies. Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.
Romans 8:33-34
We have this great gift. We have this great treasure. God’s Word is for us. His love is eternal. His forgiveness sure. But the prerequisite for receiving and being able to take ownership of this deed of grace is coming to Christ and accepting Him. Believing on him.
But also coming in humility and repentance.
Then all the desposit of His mercy is transferred to our account. Yes, we can claim each and every gift of love. Jesus is this gift. He is the balance that does not depleat.
We Can Make Appropriation of every Word in His Book.
Oh I pray you would know the Love and Mercy and grace of God.
He Desires to have to recieve this treasure.
Won’t You Come and Make It Yours?
God’s Word is that gift that keeps on giving.
I pray you would Have Him Today.
