My Dad and God

Some Parallels – My Dad and Our Heavenly Father
By Deborah Negron

November 2018

This man, this man my Daddy…
He always has something to say that makes me laugh. He is the only man in my life who has never steered me wrong.
He always makes me feel loved.
Even when I have failed miserably, my dad has never rejected, nor caused me to feel distant. I can get angry at his correction, upset at his point of view, but eventually it is his love that draws me to reconsider my thoughts.

My dad reminds me of how God is. God is not
condemning. He is not punitive or callous. Our God is merciful and his love is from everlasting to everlasting. That means even though He knew beforehand that we would fail, He has patience and mercy, love and forgiveness.

God’s unfailing love drew me…
Pulled me… seduced me…
His mercy was so convincing, His grace so overwhelming that this girl had to give in.
Jeremiah 31:3 says,
the LORD appeared to them from a distance: I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. And so with unfailing love, I have drawn you to myself.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us,
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

So just like when I have been wrong and my dad has waited and said what maybe, I did not want to hear, at first. But in due time his words took a hold and his love convinced me to rethink my position. So God’s love draws us. But there must be a response, yes. He brings us to the place of decision. He opens our understanding by His Holy Spirit, then there we must choose to turn away from our wrong path. Repent from our faulty way of thinking, refrain from walking the same old path. It is in this place of decision that we must decide.

The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9
But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we’ve done wrong.

You see the key is, that we must reconsider our thoughts, our ways and our position. We must turn away from what keeps us from him. He points out our shortcomings and our sins so that we would repent and re evaluate our condition. GOD LOVES US!!!
Just like my dad, He loves me. But wants me to walk in wisdom and in truth.

Thank You Heavenly Father for not allowing me to stray and stay so far that I would fall off the mercy map. It was your mercy mal that had an appointed time for this ‘Old Gal’ to open her eyes and reconsider my wrong decisions.

Thank you for the grace that waited for me patiently.
Jesus your love is simply amazing.
