Jeremiah 18
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. 9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. 11 Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good. 12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart. 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing. 14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken? 15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;
Mathew 16
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
The days are evil. We see the news and recognize that wickedness abounds. We hear the the stroies people relay to us and find ourselves doubtful and worry and anxiety floods our minds. The great majority of people eventually give into their fears and become mentally ill. Distress, depression and a feeling of doom overwhelm them. This is noted in the medical journals and psychiatric journals, how that stress elevates blood pressure, leading to problemswith one’s heart and other body organs. We see a gret number of young people with ulcers and anxiety disorders. Addiction and pornography and sexual sins continue to rise. Suicide among the young and old are now something that has become an epidemic.
We look at the inability of parents to care for their own children. Children come to school with concerns that cause them to act out what chaos they experience within thir homes.
Single parent homes are more the norm than two parent homes. Sexual confusion, identity confusion and a false sens of self worth is what we are seeing on the rise.
Those that believe they are above th law. And those that believe they have no worth at all. The extremes are common today.
The elderly ignored, abandoned and belittled. Their children accuse and forsake them. The very young neglected and utilized to gain monetary compensation.
The illnesses are consistent with a generation that has forgotten about their God. The God of our fathers is long gone from their understanding.
The gods of today are present, psychology, motivational speakers, media, entertainment, alcohol, drugs, self gratification and a false image of who we are.
Some say, it is because of a lack of self esteem. But I beg to differ. It is because of a lack of God eesteem. It is because everything else has taken us far from our purpose to live.
We were created for the glory of God. We were made to be his own treasure. Yet we are clay that chosen its own way. We have decided to tell the potter to stop forming us, we will form ourselves. We are a child wayward, deprived of correction. Not because it is not given, but because we have run away from home. We are then helpless and fall in to many hands…
Hands that were not capable of shaping the clay…
These are skilled only to damage, deform, destroy and hinder us from our purpose.
God’s desire is that we turn away from evil. His desire is to form in us his image, the image of his son, Jesus.
He longs to have us inherit the traits his character…
Peace, wisdom, favor, strength, understanding and hope.
He gives us for our anxiety, peace in the midst of life’s storms.
He gives us for our doubts, wisdom to know how to manage the issues of life. He grants us favor in order that we would walk in peace with men. He gives us strength to stand in the day of trouble. Then he affords us with understanding to know the signs of the times and the fact that he is able to give us the wherewithal to live lives productivley and honoring him. Finally, he gives us the hope that som many lack today.
Christ Jesus, not only came to redeem our souls, but he came that we should live and abundant life. No, no one exempt of troubles, but rather one, in which we are able to trust and believe He is able to save, restore, renew and strengthen us for the path. No, it is not an easy path, but it is a sure path that will bring us eternal life.
The antidote to life’s fears and uncertainties is arelationship with the Potter. He will make a beautiful vessel and useful and worthy and precious for his glory.
We must die to self and selfish objectives, and be reborn to an newness of life. We will not fear when the Lord is the autheor and finisher of our faith. We wil not stumble if He orders our steps.
