1 Samuel 24:4-6, 12-13, 15-18,And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily. And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt. And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord .
The Lord judge between me and thee, and the Lord avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. The Lord therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil. And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the Lord had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.Proverbs 16:2-5,7, 10-12, 15, 19-20, 23-25,28-33.
To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord : They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.Vengeance is mine says the Lord.
This is a harsh saying. Yet one that we must come to when we see evil in the camp.
When we see that human knowledge is acknowledged above the Word….
When man’s philosophy takes the paramount position. This is when we are to fear to those who would not listen. Those who devised schemes instead of seeking g the Will of the Lord. They devised human strategies to obtain their desires.
They call evil good. They hold some for their wealth and others for their position. They choose not the heeding of the Lord’s Spirit. They believe they are righteous in their own ways. Yet they have departed from the truth.
The Word of God is used to entangle and reach their ends. The simple minded have they used to surround themselves.
They have sought counsel not of the Lord, but of agreeable men. Those that will follow their every command.
We have been led astray and did not even know it. They utilize scripture to control a people. Manipulating words is their craft. But this too the Lord has seen.Pray, pray for the humble. Pray for the unknowing. Pray for the ones who are captive who do not understand they have been led down a path of man and not of the Lord.
Let us consider that we too do not fall in to a trap of despair. For when we have seen much and understood much we run the risk of becoming puffed up and arrogant. Let us be aware of the enemy’s devises. Then what is the answer, when the wicked rule, when the strong seem to be the ones leading some astray?
Seek the Lord. Understand that even in the evil day, in the day of calamity, God is still Lord over all. He makes the sun to rise up on the wicked and the good. He allows some to deepen their own pit but in the end it is His power that will prevail.Even when the church has failed to preach the true unadulterated gospel. Even when it has entangled some to reach their man made goals. THE Lord God is Still on The Throne. The wheat and the tares grow together. But the Lord is not fooled by those who began well and somehow were enticed by sin. He is not surprised when men stumble. He sees through the lies and the deceit. He sees through the seemingly well intended responses and sees the core.
God is still in control. He will deliver. He will restore. He will cleanse. The Church of Christ is his Bride. He will not allow her to be tainted forever. He will heal, restore, renew, revive and re establish her. The devil comes to kill steal and destroy. He distracts the church by enticing her with gimmicks and lights, talent and thoughts of grandeur. Yet the true church is the one who has bowed to the world.
The true church is the one who has recognized that the Bllood has been sprinkled and the the flow has cleansed. It recognizes that without Christ she is barren and unable to reproduce.
The church of Christ is totally dependent on the Lord. It seeks no human schemes nor seeks to be in company with false ideas of faith. The philosophies of man and the eloquent words do not sway her. For the true church seeks to do the Father’s will. She seeks to humble herself and repent daily, for daily we sin. She understands that without true faith it is impossible to please God.
The true church is not enamoured with the hefty bank account. It surrenders to the provision of the Lord without taxing the body.Oh where are the ones who stand for truth and who are truly servants of the most high? Where are those who do not make merchandise of men? Where are those who are not ashamed to bow their head low and repent?Saul sought to kill David. Yet David understood that vengeance was the Lord’s. He understood that the word that had been spoken over his life and the anointing the Lord had placed on him would come to pass. He did not become enamoured with the idea of the calling.
He was in love with the God who called him. He did not hold his position because of some man appointed power or authority. He understood that the God of Israel was the one who would choose the time of his enthroning. The Lord is the Lifter of our heads. He is the judge. He is the one who can make straight even the paths of the wicked. He saves. He can change the heart of stone, to one of flesh. He can raise leaders and bring them low.So, we pray for the church of Christ. We pray for those who shepherd the Lord’s flock. We pray that when the Master comes he finds us serving with care and being good stewards of His possession.Whether in good standing and then distracted, or whether having begun this race with other goals in mind. The Lord is a merciful God. He is slow to anger and rich in mercy.
Today is the day of salvation. Today we can repent of the error of our ways and turn back to Him.
2 Chronicles 7:14 states,
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. There is still time. Let us come and reason together with the Lord. The end does not justify the means. We cannot do wrong to establish good intentions. God will judge us for every act, For everything we have done. His church will be purged and without spot of wrinkle she will enter in to rest. God will right the wrongs men have commited and will not allow his Bride to be ashamed.Let us come and recognize our failures. Let us look to Him who is the Author and Fisnisher of the faith. Let us turn away from the ways of Baal. Let us choose who we will serve this day.
