Hebrew 7
24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
Hebrews 8
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. 8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. 13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
How easily things become obsolete. How quickly they become useless and nonprofit able as one considers the new product. Perhaps we have have a laptop and at first it is “great”. For a time we think it is quite excellent. But after time a new one comes on the market. It can assist us in making many more documents. The facility with which it can be used makes it formidable. Oh, now it’s a touch screen laptop. Oh, it’s more vibrant. It produces more high quality outcomes.
So, our once great computer, is now nothing that another limited device storing up dust on on a shelf.
The priests of old had to come and first offer up a sacrifice for their own sins. They were human and as we all are flawed.
The image of God in them was also flawed Altered and distorted. This was passed on to each person through the First Adam. Man had sinned and therefore our connection and relationship with the Father had been hindered. This is true in us today. Sin separates us from God. The priests were supposed to pray for the people and offer sacrifices in order to provoke God to mercy. This was tedious and had to be done over and over. For we human beings fail consistently. Even the priests were not blameless. They too were sinners.
The God of Heaven grew tired of these constant sacrifices. People continued to offer them up and then return to their sin.
But the Advent of the Lord Jesus changed all that.Hisncom ok ng brought an end to countless sacrifices.
When Jesus offered himself for our atonement, He took the place place of that sacrificial lamb. He became the very one who took on his own body, the punishment for our iniquities, all our sins. He then did not remain dead, so, there would be a need for another for another sacrifice, no. He Arose from the dead on the third day. He fulfilled the law that had been impossible for any person to fulfill.
He became the Spotless Lamb of God that Taketh Away the Sin of The World.
He became our mediator, and advocate of mercy between The Father and humanity.
Jesus not only became that sacrifice, he became our High priest. Jesus now sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for us.
Why does He have to intercede for us?
He must consistently intercede because we daily fail. We daily falter. The flesh is the culprit. Though we are saved and do not habitually or willingly intend to sin, at times we do. We find ourselves misreading, judging, being ignorant of things we later find were wrong. We fail simply because we have two nature’s living within. The carnal nature and the spirit nature. These are present when we have surrendered to Christ. Before knowing Christ we are unaware of such things.
Human beings have a propensity to sin.
Yet through our Lord’s intercession for us The Holy Spirit empowers us to come to repentance. The spirit of God draws to come to the acknowledgement of our failures and in loving conviction draws us back to the Lord.
We then, have the ability to discern and live more righteously learning from our failures and shortcomings our great need of our High Priest, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
What a position for us to hold. He is there on our behalf. Glory to God.
The law pointed out my sin. The law pointed to the necessity I have of a Savior. The old covenant was flawed. Impossible to keep.
Christ gave us a new covenant sealed by his sacrifice. Perpetuated by his rising again.
He is paid for Redemption. Our Covering. He is our advocate, our lawyer. He stands for us. We are no longer given a sentence of death and eternal Condemnation. Through Jesus Christ we can come to be forgiven and restored to a right relationship with the Heavenly Father.
No longer must be enslaved by our sin. We can be set free becuase of Jesus. We can be given newness of life. We can be Born Again.
We can be given our True Identity, purpose, direction and destiny. We can be repositioned by God to be in the path that leads us to heaven and Eternal life.
Yet without Jesus mankind is doomed to a lost eternity, a lost identity and a lost purpose. Yet through His death and Resurection we have The Image of God Renewed in us.
Christ Jesus is our only Hope.
Today Lord let me be conscious of what you do. Let me be humble and clean to the one who is able to sustain me in this faith. Let me love in such a way that I honor you. Thank you Jesus. Amen
