1 Kings 9

3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. 4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: 5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

We all have rules to follow.

Protocols we must adhere to. We all have measures that must be taken in a specific way in order to receive a certain outcome.

But when we come to God and faith we seem to want an all inclusive, all forgiving and

‘We want the Anything goes type of God.’

We want him to bless us…

Though we follow not his commandments.

We want his protection though we do not dress ourselves in the armour he has a forehand provided (Ephesians 6).

We want his mercy even though we are too quick to offer judgment ourselves.

We want his sunny days and an his cloudless skies. We want the warmth of his embrace without the correcting rod.

We want grace without coming in repentance. Such is the people we are.

Yet in every instance God shows us there are steps we must follow to attain the blessings. There are paths to trod that will lead up to our destiny. We cannot somehow arrive without the journey of faith.

Hebrews tells us,

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11).

In our walk of faith we must believe that God… is a rewarder of those who seek him.

We cannot attain the reward lest we seek him.

We have prayers answered when we persevere… and trust in the God of our salvation.

Faith comes by hearing…

We must listen. Hope comes as we adhere to reading God’s word and renewing our minds daily.

Believing when nothing is physically seen is part of faith. Not turning away in good times and staying also within the midst of the storm is faith.

God told Solomon that his desire was to bless Israel. His desire was to continue having having a king on the throne that came from David’s descendents, yet God laid out the conditions in 1 Kings 9 it continues…

6 But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: 7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: 8 And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and to this house? 9 And they shall answer, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.

Note the promise of blessing and the warning.

In Deuteronomy 28

God tells the people…

1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. 3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

But then comes the condition…

Deuteronomy 28

15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: 16 Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. 17 Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store. 18 Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 19 Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 20 The Lord shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.

We forget He is The Almighty, The God Creator, The Maker of Heaven and Earth. We forget He Requires Justice and He Gave Himself For us.

We want His Blessings, Let us Walk in Truth. Let’s recall His Majesty and Power and Humble ourselves before Him. He will Bless when We Surrender.

LORD, today…

Help me to walk in uprightness.

Help me to adhere to tour word.

Help me to live believing and walking in you.

Let me not stray to the right or the left of this path. Help, Help me not to stumble again.

Help me to live worthy of the calling and live out your plan.

That I would be such as those who attained their reward…

Like Daniel faithful and fervent in prayer. ..

Like Joseph true to you…

Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego which did not bow under pressure yet stood with the fourth man in the midst of the flames.

Let me be brave as Rahab,

Wise as Esther, strong Deborah and

Willing as Mary.

That I would have a heart like David and seek you daily.

Let me serve you and honor you the rest of my days.
