In the What If’s of Life

Believe me, we all have thoughts of doom from time to time. We all have fears about the what ifs of life. Yet, our resolve must be in who Christ is.
If we are abandoned by others, he promises to be the one that sticketh closer than a brother. (Ref. Proverbs 18:24)
If We are afraid he promises never to leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
Psalm 91 states, that the Lord will cover us under the feathers of his wings. The picture I see when I think of this is of a mama bird guarding her offspring.
When we are being attacked the Bible says He is our Fortress. He is our deliverer.
Psalm 18:2 says, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.”
Mental anguish and despair may come from within ourselves and our own fears, yet the enemy capitalizes on this. He often adds to our thoughts these are the fiery darts of the enemy. These darts can be extinguished when we take up the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16).
We can renew our mind, restructure our thoughts as we draw close to the Lord and read the Word of God. (Romans 12:2).
When Jesus was in the wilderness he was attacked and tempted of Satan. But Jesus Jesus’ greatest weapon was the word of God. (Mathew 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13).
It is comforting when we know the scriptures. We can draw from them the wisdom of God and that gives us peace in the midst of life’s storms. It is clear God gives us the faith option. He gives us the wherewithal to combat negative thought patterns. He puts the ball in our court. He gives us the option, the choice. But it is completely up to us to make a decision. It is up to me to choose Christ and his purpose for me. If I choose another toute, then I cannot find the peace He alone can give. I cannot find the hope He alone can bring. I cannot glean from the grain He alone has planted. The benefit is found when we choose Him.
In the midst of the many If’s of life, we can look at Matthew 6:25 to 31, the Word of God comforts us. Jesus tells us, to look at nature, the birds, the way all is kept and made beautiful and cared for by our Creator. The Word reminds us we are far worth more than this to God.
In the midst of illness, loss, fear, pain and anxiety the Lord gently reminds us that His love for us surpasses all of it. He is with us in the midst of every if. He is with us when calamity comes. He will be with us in the darkest pit. He will not abandon us even when we are found in that darkness because of our own choices. He is the One who “lifts us up out of the miry clay” (Psalm 40:2).
We can depend on the one who came not to condemn us but sent to save us. (John 3:16 -17).
In the very center of your storm, cry out to Jesus. His ear is attuned to your call. His right arm is mighty to save. he wants you to surrender your fears, your loss, and your dreams and desires for a future. He desires to prosper you and not to harm you. But really, the choice is yours. The conscious decision must be made by you and me. We cannot obtain the glory unless we submit to His story. We can’t obtain the blessing, unless we choose the Crossing…. Come On Let’s cross to the other side. Let’s choose His path rather than our past.
